Roland Mitchell is the E.B. “Ted” Robert Endowed Professor and Dean of the College of Human Sciences
& Education at LSU. After earning his PhD in 2005, Roland rose through the faculty
ranks at LSU from his initial appointment as an Instructor to an Endowed Professor.
His research theorizes the impact of historical and communal knowledge on postsecondary
education. Roland has authored 7 books and numerous scholarly works. Based on his
scholarly record and related activity, Roland earned an LSU Distinguished Faculty
Award, was named Jo Ellen Levy Yates Endowed Professor, and was selected as a Southeastern
Conference (SEC) Academic Development Fellow. Roland has a deep passion for impactful
community service as evidenced by his membership on the Louisiana Department of Children
and Family Services advisory boards and Campus Federal Credit Union.
Roland has a BA in History from Fisk University, an MEd in Higher Education from Vanderbilt
University, and a PhD in Educational Research from The University of Alabama. Roland
is married to Dr. Chaunda Mitchell, and they have a 7-year-old daughter, Faith Mitchell,
who is the joy of their lives.
