Each year, the university joins with the Cadets of the Ole War Skule to pay tribute to the courage, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice of former students, faculty, and staff who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
This year’s Memorial Day Ceremony took place on Friday, May 30 — traditional Memorial Day — at noon on the Parade Ground at the LSU War Memorial. The “Ceremony in Silence” included a solemn wreath-laying and the playing of “Taps.” The public was invited to attend and reflect during the moving tribute.
Cadets of the Ole War Skule is made of up of LSU alumni and others who have served in the armed forces as well as others who support the military and the LSU Corps of Cadets.
The organization strives to foster and perpetuate patriotism, to strengthen a sense of individual allegiance to LSU and to promote public awareness of the value of LSU’s military contributions — past, present and future.
